Pybus Bay on Admiralty Island, Alaska

Nothing Beats Summers in Pybus Bay, Admiralty Island, Alaska

It is known in the Tlingit tongue as Kootznoowoo, meaning "Fortress of the Bears." It is plentiful with bears, sitka black tail deer, bald eagles, and fish. Every year, I walk home with a box or two of fresh caught Coho, Pink, King, Cod, Ling, Bass, and Yellow Eye, when the year permits. Sometimes some shrimp, crab, or even an octopus.

The lodge is on the southern tip of Admiralty Island, about 80 miles south of Juneau, accessible only by boat or bush plane. Nothing beats the isolation. Fishing spots are basically to yourself. Things are quiet. Though some people can't handle the solitude, I thrive in it.

Just a couple hours from the lodge, the Tracy Arm Fjord releases a massive glacier into the ocean. Well worth the drive over the Inside Passage, the glacier presents some amazing opportunities for sighting seals, mountain goats, and best of all, the calving chunks of ice, if you're lucky.

A little montage I just made of my favorite scenes around Admiralty Island.
